Walking around the property, I realize that there is much work to do…which I have been neglecting. But first, an update on the pool. it’s almost clear enough to go go swimming! I’m thinking by tomorrow it will be ready.
Yeah, that’s a sock!! When the string for the bag that came with the vacuum broke, I had to figure something else out. I sock works just as well, if not better. I haven’t been able to find just the bag, you have to buy a whole kit, and I don’t need that. Which reminds me, I need to make some phone calls this afternoon after work.
Now, on to the property. Not sure if I have said this before but I’m going to say is again… I own three and a third acres, three bedroom house. I turned my parents bedroom into a library. I couldn’t see myself moving into their bedroom, considering it’s where they both passed away (more on that in another post). Any bedrooms I turn into something else can be turned back into a bedroom later, so no worries.
Another view of the rose bush! It acts as a sort of hedge between my house and the neighbors. Not that we need it… I think most of the times they forget we are here. One day, about a year or so ago, they had company and the guy walked behind his jeep and peed…not realizing that I could see him. No big deal, but if he had known we were there, he probably wouldn’t have done it. Another day, not too long ago, I drove up on a guy peeing in the neighbors driveway. Again, he had no idea there were neighbors. What can you do but laugh?
This is something I will be working on this weekend. Won’t take that long, considering that I have a hedge trimmer and pole saw.
This is the berm I told you about a while ago…it’s on the left of the tree and runs behind the camper. There’s a compost area to the right (cinder blocks). I need to move it and cover what’s there. I’m thinking that I will just put it beside the one that’s already there…as long as I can dig it out a little.
We could’ve used rocks, but with all the digging I do for my gardens, we use dirt. Nothing is better than free.
We have a few sassafras tree on the property…any babies we try to mow down, but they do have medicinal properties. I can’t remember what right now.
The raspberries and blackberries should be blooming soon. I should be able to get quite a bunch!
I didn’t realize that my toe was in the picture, guess I’ll have to crop it out if I use it for anything. There was a bush in the way, so I used my foot to move it out of the way so I could get a picture.
When I was a kid – and the original owners lived here – we used to climb this tree and eat mulberries. We had a lot of fun with the neighbors kids, even though they only lived here for a year.
It is actually kind of hard to see, but it’s there. It is used to divert water run off from the neighbors property. It directs the water away from the house and towards the back of the property.
This walk around was just the upper end of the property. We don’t keep everything mowed and “tidy”, just enough that we can get through and feel good about. We have wild animals living here! I try to tell my boyfriend that we don’t need to cut every dead or dying tree down…as long as it doesn’t pose a threat, it’s ok. Woodpeckers and other animals love the trees, and the undergrowth gives them somewhere to hide and food to eat.
All I can do is my best, I know God wouldn’t have given me all this if I couldn’t take care of it or manage it!
Until next time…

That’s about all I have for today! There’s so much to do, so little time. I really have learned to take it one day at a time, but sometimes I forget and get stressed about it.
