A beautiful day for a road trip/family reunion…
Hydeman is a little town in Pennsylvania between Bedford (PA) and Cumberland, MD. If traffic good, it takes about 2 hours to get there. It’s one of those towns that if you blink, you miss it.
My dad’s mother’s side of the family comes from the area. He – my dad – was born in a house that his Uncle Wilbert lived in for a while. After my dad was born, his family moved to Ridgeley, WV then to Wiley Ford, WV, then to Hyattsville area in Maryland.
Where I’m standing is the actual hall and of course I didn’t take any pictures! It was a one room school house back in the day…my grandmother and some (if not all) of her siblings went to school there. Her older sister was her teacher for a while. This was back in the 1920’s.
Only 11 oeople showed up for this year’s reunion 🙁
Sideling Hill is a long, steep, narrow mountain ridge in the Ridge-and-Valley physiographic province of the Appalachian Mountains, located in Washington County in western Maryland and adjacent West Virginia and Pennsylvania, USA.
Elevation: 1,770′
We put about 274 miles on my car yesterday, round trip, and didn’t get home until 630 last night.
Very relaxing and everyone seemed to like my boyfriend, which is a good thing!
Next year’s reunion is at Shawnee state park, just a few miles up the road from Hydeman. Hopefully more people come!
I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend!

You have feet in your shoes
You can steer yourself
Any direction you choose”
