32 degrees

Dec 19, 2019

Been a busy, not busy day! Way too cold outside to do anything. And cool in the house too! When I woke up this morning it was 19 degrees outside, 67 in the house. It’s taken me all day to get the temp in the house up to 72 degrees. One of the cons of having a wood stove as the primary heat source. That, and it feels like I’m constantly bringing wood in. When I’m done here, I need to bring some more in.

32 degrees (F) is as warm as it got today. It’s supposed to be warmer tomorrow, or so they say. We’ve already had three (3) small snow storms so far, and it’s not even winter yet!

Yeah, I know I shouldn’t complain. There’s places in the U.S. that are colder and have gotten more snow. I’m just worried! I see the wood pile going down and my boyfriend isn’t bringing more…yet anyway. He told me he and his friend were going to get more wood this week. It’s Thursday!

I know we’ll get through…we have to! I have to! I’m not one to give up! As hard as it may seem, it could be worse and – as my mom used to say – “This too shall pass!”

“This too shall pass” is a Persian proverb…did you know that?

“Sometimes there is nothing you can do but let it rain and wait for the sunshine.” ~ unknown

“So far you have survived 100% of your worst days. So, hang in there. This too shall pass.” ~ unknown

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” ~ Romans 8:18 (NKJV)

“Remind yourself often to just breathe! (This too shall pass.)

Bridge over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel

“When you’re weary, feeling small
When tears are in your eyes, I’ll dry them all (all)
I’m on your side, oh, when times get rough
And friends just can’t be found
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

When you’re down and out
When you’re on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you (ooo)
I’ll take your part, oh, when darkness comes
And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

Sail on silver girl
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way
See how they shine
Oh, if you need a friend
I’m sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind”

Songwriters: Paul Simon

One of my favorite songs by Simon and Garfunkel.

Tomorrow is National Sangria Day, National Underdog Day, National Ugly Sweater Day, and Mudd Day

Dec 20 is the birthday of Dr. Samuel Mudd, he operated on Booth’s fractured leg after he (Booth) assassinated Lincoln on April 14, 1865. Sometime on the 15th, Mudd learned of the assassination but did not report Booth’s visit to the authorities for another 24 hours. The delay in reporting Booth’s visit appeared to link him to the crime. Mudd also made changes to his story under interrogation, and on April 26, authorities arrested Mudd. A military commission found him guilty of aiding and conspiring in a murder, and he was sentenced to life in prison, escaping the death penalty by a single vote.

President Andrew Johnson did pardon Mudd, and he was released from prison in 1869. Despite repeated attempts by family members and others, Mudd’s conviction has never been overturned nor has his record been expunged.

One Comment on “32 degrees

  1. Use to have a wood stove – we worked hard to keep the wood cut and stacked. My mother always said – “This too shall pass.” Ha Love the song by Simon & Garfunkle. Surely you must be a younger than me kindred soul.
