And unfortunately, that means another funeral…
My dad’s cousin, John, who lived and farmed in Hyndman PA passed away over the weekend. I only found out about it last night, but still managed to show my condolences. At least it’s not freezing cold out with lots of snow on the ground.
only in a small town like this, will you find the library located next door to the Funeral Home… the actual library is off camera to the right. And it’s tiny! I should’ve taken a pic, but you know how it goes. I’ll be back in the area in June, so maybe then.
When we were heading here, after the funeral services, I realized where exactly we were heading… The two headstones, center and center right are my great great great great grandparents, Levi and Rachel (Baker) Shaffer.
A closer image of it is below…
I came out here with my dad a few years ago, but we had no idea where we were going and it took us for ever to find it…
I just liked the fact that the cedar tree was let to grow in the cemetery…kind of like a protection.
Then we went and saw my great great great something grandfathers tombstones… Cornelius Devore and his wife, Elizabeth. He fought in the Revolutionary War and received 1000 acres when he mustered out. If you look in the background, you can see the outline of a house… he built that house.
So…that’s where I’ve been all day. Sorry for being absent…I knew this was something I needed to do, there was nothing I could do. And, I don’t like posting from my phone as it is weird sometimes.
