colors of spring

my thoughts for today
I was going to show you some photos
of the wildlife in my backyard, but like usual
something else caught my eye

all photos taken with my cell phone today

hope you enjoy!

I’m pretty sure the risk of frost is over, so I’ve started putting my houseplants back outside/off the deck. And in doing so, I noticed some wildflowers blooming in one of my gardens…

hosta leaves amongst the green

All the green and white does make for an interesting composition, don’t you think? I know it’s not a wildflower, but I couldn’t resist including it today!

I should really try and get rid of all that green, but it’s nearly an impossible task. I believe the green leaves (not the hostas) you see are some type of fern. I will be out sometime soon and trim them back, but as long as they don’t choke out the other plants, I don’t really worry about them. This fall, if I have the time, I will more than likely transplant some more hostas into this garden. My boyfriend keeps mowing some of them down…

field daisy…

I love how they are purple when they first open! I’m not sure why they do that, as you can see in the photo above, one has turned white – or almost white. There’s an area not too far from the deck, probably about three foot square, that are growing wild. I’m not allowed to let them grow…even though it is my property. No matter what he says, his name is not on the property and probably never will be! But, I’m not getting into that here and now.
Only happy thoughts!
I’m sure, if I allowed them to thrive, they would over take the grass. I couple of years ago, I started letting them grow – just mowing them when they started to die off. I went from about a square foot to three square feet. Maybe more!

I should dig them up and replant them…

this could make for a good short story…

It looks like something/one peeking out from underneath a helmet… I had to crop it and show you! It is cropped from the image above! Sometimes, my cell phone cooperates with me!

snow drops or Star of Bethlehem?

I’m not completely sure these are snow drops…they’re growing wild on my property. They are pretty, and whenever I can, I dig them up and put them in one of my gardens…so they don’t get mowed down.

  1. Holly, is that the official name for those flowers, field daisy? We had those all through our wash this spring and they are beautiful! I posted some photos of them. They mesmerized me. They are so pretty! I bet they live longer where you are, they are all dried up here. Just lovely!
