Gunpowder treason and plot”

I picked the title because I liked it, no other reason. But, I wanted to know more about it before “just using it”, so I included the nursery rhyme

Remember, remember the fifth of November,
Gunpowder treason and plot.
We see no reason
Why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!
Guy Fawkes, guy, t’was his intent
To blow up king and parliament.
Three score barrels were laid below
To prove old England’s overthrow.
By god’s mercy he was catch’d
With a darkened lantern and burning match.
So, holler boys, holler boys, Let the bells ring.
Holler boys, holler boys, God save the king.
And what shall we do with him?
Burn him!

… according to the “Guy Fawkes and Bonfire” Site, “Immortalized in this nursery rhyme, the Gunpowder Plot is introduced early into the young minds of children throughout the United Kingdom.”

“In 1605, thirteen young men planned to blow up
the Houses of Parliament. Among them was
Guy Fawkes, Britain’s most notorious traitor.”

Years ago, when my son was still young, we went to Ocean City, MD and celebrated Easter there. I’ll just tell you…it was one of those weekends…the Easter Bunny came and brought him a sand bucket full of sand toys and candy. It was a blast, blowing bubbles from the fourth floor and watching them float around, people on the street enjoying the bubbles as well. Well, it came time for us to leave, packed everything up, and left. We left behind 1 of my son’s sandals and a bag of candy. I’m sure housekeeping finds stuff like that – or worse – all the time. But we rarely ever leave anything behind!

Sorry this is so late this morning…

    • I’m sure they appreciated the candy…I wouldn’t want to be a housekeeper at a hotel or motel, that’s for sure 🙂

      • I am…doing the best I can. Some days, I feel my head is going to explode with everything that’s going on. Not to say I’m ignoring it, but I’ve started turning the tv off several hours every day, to keep from stressing too much. Music and/or peace and quiet…that’s the new norm for me 🙂
        How are you doing?

      • You know, while I read the news on my phone, I do not even own a TV. I have been focusing on Bible reading and socially distant church services. Beside the long hours at work, I have been spending a lot of time with my family completing cheap dollar store crafts and working in the yard. I do plan on another 35 mile hike attempt. My last go was 22 to 26 miles.

      • once the weather cools a bit, I plan on getting back to work on the yard – putting a decent sized veggie garden in and working on the footpath to the deck. My tomatoes did nothing this year 🙁 My flowers are doing great though 🙂
I’ve thought about doing away with the tv altogether, but for now we’re ditching directv and going to hulu – streaming. I’d be ok with no tv, but some in the family..not so much.

      • I’m trying…sometimes I get knocked on my butt, gotta keep going no matter what
        🙂
