I have been so tempted to get an SLR, probalby like something you have. But since our winters are long and cold, I find that I’m only taking pics in the spring / summer and fall. Now with the pandemic, it’s almost zero! So my phone works… 🙂
They have cheap ones out there…my first digital camera cost around $100, it was a point and shoot. Sometimes I’d prefer using it over my expensive camera, especially when it was really cold or wet…the expensive one tended to freeze up. The one I use now was $250. Cell phones work too, which I do use on occasion. Whatever you use, is ok…don’t need an expensive camera to take good pics ☺
Yeah I began with an HP but dropped it on Yonge st. I think it was ‘punishment’ for taking a pic of a guy playing bagpipes but not giving him any change! It died soon after from the fall. So now I have a Canon digital zoom but it is not SLR. My Mom has a camera too, I think it’s SONY. Both are okay but for that really serious control over depth of field and low distortion, I think you need the detatchable lenses! (My Mom worked in a camera store back in the 70s, so we had old school SLRs, lenses, etc. Very bulky but effective!) 🙂
I read somewhere that you can get an adapter to put the old school SLR’s on the DSLR’s. Don’t know how much they cost…but would be cool to have.
While I was in school, I tried my hardest to stay old school but I bit the bullet and went digital. One of these days I’ll get an enlarger (I think that’s what it’s called), and start processing my own film. That’s the only way to do it nowadays and the only thing keeping me from film.
Yeah i heard that about converting the old to the new but figured it would be better to just start afresh. Also, our SLRs were middle-grade not top of the line (except for my bro). My OTHER bro had a darkroom for b%w in the basement and it was a blast. Almost mystical down there, doing “test strips” and stuff like that… putting the paper in varoius mixes, washes and fixes. i was very young but remember it well.
The converter just allows for the switchover, the photos are totally different from what I’ve seen. An artsy quality, which is right up my alley ☺
Well, you should give it a shot! I also think you’d really like having your own darkroom… just a hunch. Color chemicals might be costly but if you really wanna go for it..! 😲🙂
I can do both, I want to at least do black and white and lumen. I’ll have to see if I can find my color photos from community college
A lot of people – younger people, like around 20 – probably don’t realize how pioneering the early film manipulation was… true, photoshop can do it “cleaner” perhaps but there’s really something about analog tech.. (not really ‘analog’ cause that refers to circuits, but u know what i mean… ) 🙂
I’ve actually thought about diving a little into photo history, one of the more fun classes I took…Outside of actual photo classes
ha ha… yeah and the history of satellite photos might be sorta cool too… from those primitive, b&w fuzzy pieces of crap to what we have today… 😉
