a little bit of this, a little bit of that

my thoughts for today

First off, I have to say today marks one year since my cat, Kalimba, crossed over Rainbow Bridge…

He was something else, but the best cat ever. And I mean that with all my heart. It nearly killed me when he took his last breath in my lap…he passed at home, on his own (no meds), surrounded with love and tears!

With the holidays lately, just getting through has been tough…Father’s Day snuck up on me, as did Mother’s Day, and with Kalimba’s death anniversary, it’s been a rough month or so. But, I’m still here…even if there are tears in my eyes.

I think, from now on…on holiday’s such as these I will be heading into the mountains for the day. Weather permitting. It’s hard sitting at home…

I think a skunk has been eating the bird food at night! The other night, I think it was Wednesday, I stepped outside before going to bed and heard some rustling out by the camper. Turned on the flashlight and there he was – a big, old skunk, foraging for dinner. Shone the light on the bird food plate…it was empty. The little stinker! LOL

So I’m a stinker
for not writting sooner!

So I looked it up…skunks do raid bird feeders! As well as deer, bear, squirrels, chipmunks… usually during the winter, when food is scarce. Maybe the skunk is trying to tell me something?

I do have to apologize before I go…for not being as attentive as I should be. When I post in the morning I have every intention of getting on the computer later in the day and catching up with everyone. Some times…it just doesn’t happen. It’s been an off week for me this week. Just not feeling myself. Not sick, just not myself.

The cool weather doesn’t help any…has my brain thinking we need to start getting ready for winter! The pool water was only 71 degrees yesterday! Got in, scooped the leaves and bugs out, two dunks and I was out. At the moment, it’s 84 degrees outside which isn’t bad. But it hasn’t been warmer than that all week. And I’m really, really, really trying not to complaign and be grateful! But I want to be able to get in the pool and enjoy it!

On the plus side, my plants and bugs are happy! Yeah, one little squash…better than none. Right? There will be more…

garden fence

A fence I made (above) using old poles and rope. Doing it this way is so much easier to adjust as need be than putting something else in, which is what my boyfriend wanted to do. In the winter, I can take it down, roll it up and stick it away. And rake the dead debris away…

Tiger Lily seeds

I’ve gathered at least 500 Tiger Lily seeds the last couple of days, off the sidewalk. The best part is the seeds can just be scattered through the gardens. No digging required. I’ve got two Lily Bulbs to plant, hopefully tomorrow. Was going to do it today, but just didn’t feel like it!

I’ve also got a wood post to put in the ground…yeah, just a post. I’m hoping it will deter Carpenter bees from drilling in the rafters of the deck. I need to put another one out front, I think, as well. I’ve noticed them drilling in the grape arbor and the post for the hopper bird feeder. Well see what happens.

  1. Maybe it’s time to get another cat? Sounds like someone needs a faithful companion. After all, our time here on earth is short and we should learn to enjoy every aspect of it that we can. Personally, I prefer cats over dogs. There’s something about a cat’s stately elegance that marks it as one of the earth’s chosen animals.

    • I’m more of a dog person myself, I was thinking it is time for one of both. I know it will happen when the time is right!

  2. That picture with his eyes lit up in AMAZING! Those are my favorite pictures of my Rainbow Bridge Babies – where their eyes are insanely creepy!!

  3. Well, you could have 115+ degrees going on. We are happy to be hanging out around 100 – 105 now. And we got just enough rain to start getting excited! Hope you have a great weekend Holly!

    • I know…there’s always something, someone, somewhere…which is why I try not to complain. It could always be worse…it could be snowing! LOL
It’s supposed to get hot again starting today, we’ll see what happens. I just want to be able to enjoy to pool…
