baby, it’s cold outside

my thoughts for today

~ a country girl’s all I’ll ever be ~

Now two flags fly above my land that really sum up how I feel
One is the colors that fly high and proud
The red, the white, the blue
The other ones got a rattlesnake with a simple statement made
“Don’t tread on me” is what it says and I’ll take that to my grave
Because, this is me
I’m proud to be American and strong in my beliefs
And I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again
Cause I’ve never needed government to hold my hand
And I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again
Cause my family has always fought and died to save this land
And a country boy is all I’ll ever be

~ Aaron Lewis

It’s only 27 degrees (-2.7C) outside at the moment, with a low of 18 degrees (-7.7C) last night. Way too cold to be doing much of anything outside! Even my boyfriend isn’t doing much outside right now. He drives me crazy sometimes, but it is what it is. It is supposed to warm up tomorrow, to 45 degrees (7.2C), but we will see if that actually happens. The other day, when it was supposed to get to 45 degrees, it didn’t happen until around midnight.

The day will come when I will have to be outside more, especially if have any chickens or what have you. But I will deal with that when that day comes.

Despite the cold, this is what I like about winter. The chance to slow down…relax a little…reflect. With the wood stove as our primary heat source, there isn’t much relaxing, but all the yardwork, gardening, etc. is put on hold until spring. Without winter, there is no break, no time to recoup from the past year. Snow on the ground makes the world look clean, fresh. Just like new growth in the spring, the rippling brook during the summer, or the colorful leaves in the fall – the snowy, cold winter also has its place. To me, every season has its place and beauty. Without the cold of winter, we can’t enjoy the heat of summer as much; without the fall harvest we can’t enjoy the spring growth.

And just like most everything else, winter doesn’t last forever.

“I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields,
that it kisses them so gently?
And then it covers them up snug,
you know, with a white quilt;
and perhaps it says,
“Go to sleep, darlings, till the summer comes again.”

hope you have a great day!
thanks for stopping by!!

My grandmother told me “Never say you are sick. Even if you are sick, say you are healing. Words do manifest”.

One symptom is that it makes you
read everything backwards.

  1. It’s been super cold where I’m at, single digits all day. I like the winter too, but I’d like the temp at least a little warmer.
