days like this

February 2, 2022

I slept in this morning, kind of. I woke up around 9:15am because I had to use the bathroom. After drinking a cup of coffee, I decided to go back to sleep for a while. I just could not get myself awake. I didn’t post, get on facebook or anything…straight back to bed I went. And I slept for another two hours…

I typically sleep no later than 10am, but after several nights of getting 5 hours or less of sleep, I needed those few extra hours. For the last several weeks, I’ve been staying up until around 4am, give or take. There are a couple of reasons for this. First, I get some quiet time to work on my blog. Second, I keep the wood stove going through the night, especially with the frigid temperatures the last week or so. My boyfriend gets up a couple hours later…everything’s good! Sure, I could go to bed around midnight, but someone would have to get set the alarm. That’s no fun! Oh, and in case you didn’t know, I don’t have an electric furnace. Haven’t since 2018. It went up the same time I had the wood stove installed. Since I had already committed to the woodstove, I put off replacing the furnace. At least until the wood stove is paid off. I could have borrowed more money, but my gut said “No, don’t do that!” Little did I know that a little over a year and a half later I would be quitting my job or that COVID was on the horizon.

After waking back up, and getting myself truly awake, I headed outside to help my boyfriend cut and split wood. That is, AFTER I posted and checked in with facebook. I was outside for 4 hours this afternoon. It felt good! It wasn’t too terribly cold, the sun was shining, and I was getting some exercise! Much needed exercise after being stuck in or near the house for such a long time!

Here is the progress we have made…

The first 4 photos are from 2014, when we had an ice storm. It took out part of the tree. I have photos of the top stuck in the other trees, but I haven’t been able to find them…yet. It was mostly dead and getting too dangerous to leave. The locust it was propped up in also came down. I’m hoping the elm can be saved. Come spring we should know. Most of the wood in the last photo has been split…we will be doing more tomorrow. Then Thursday it’s supposed to rain and there’s a chance we could get another winter storm over the weekend. So doing this now, while we can, is very beneficial! Most of the wood we’re splitting now will be stacked up for next year. We might need to dig into it a little this year, but I’m hoping not.

More to come!

hope you have a great day!
thanks for stopping by!!
