In the garden

my thoughts for today

In the garden
and everything in between

Anybody want some cold, winter weather? Just kidding…mostly. Most of this week I have had to cover my Bleeding Heart bushes, either because of freeze warning or because we had freezing rain/snow. I have other flowers that are budding/blooming that probably could have benefited from being covered, but my Bleeding Hearts are the most delicate. I broke a couple of stems off in the process of covering them up…oh well! They do look pretty in the house…

It hasn’t been all bad though…I did manage to get a post up and set (below) during a few days of almost summer like temperatures. I plan on getting two bird feeders to hang on either end, another finch feeder and a hummingbird feeder.

The post came down during an ice storm back in 2014. It used to be part of a clothesline we had up…a treetop came down on the line, snapping one of the poles. The other end stayed up and now has ornamental grass growing around it and windchimes/reflectors on it. One thing about me, if you haven’t noticed yet, is I will reuse anything and everything I possibly can. The pole is shorter, being only about four feet tall, but height isn’t important…as long as the squirrels can’t get the feeders, all is good.

There are two finch feeders hanging from the shepherd’s hook. We have about a dozen Gold Finch that have decided to make Holly’s World home, and they fight over the feeders all the time. I’m not sure if adding another feeder will help, but nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? The two feeders I have only have two ports each (four total) for them to feed from, so the fighting continues.

It’s supposed to get nice again over the weekend – it’s raining at the moment, then cool off again by the middle of next week. We did have some snow showers one day earlier this week, I can’t remember which day it was though…I didn’t take any pictures because the snow didn’t stick. The ground was/is too warm.

I know it’s spring and typically temperatures/weather fluctuates this time of the year, but freezing temperatures near the end of April? I guess not unheard of, but unusual for my part of the world. I honestly couldn’t tell you the last time we got snow this late where I live. Farther west, in the mountains it’s more likely to get snow this time of the year than it is here.

Should I chalk it up to “global warming” or “climate change”, and call it a day? Or does Old Man Winter still have something to say? Naw, it’s all part of the ebb and flow of this thing called life and the planet we live on doing her thing. We may not like it, but it is what it is!

hope you have a great day!
thanks for stopping by!!
