I heard the Bible talks about decorated trees. I’ll have to look that verse up one day.

Jeremiah 10: 1-4
Hear ye the word which the Lord speaketh unto you, O house of Israel: Thus saith the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.

It all comes down to knowing what you do and why you’re doing it. I keep wanting to dive in deeper, but right now isn’t the time…it is up to us individually to determine what is right. I can share information with you, but ultimately it is a personal choice as to where to go from here. I, myself, am having to examine and reexamine what I thought I knew. What does God want me to do…?

  1. I appreciate you and your tenacity in providing so many varied and interesting thoughts and quotes…. especially the ones that make me smile like the sweet kitten in this one.
I didn’t celebrate Christmas for many years until I discovered in the Book of Maccabees that December 25th is the day that is dedicated to honor the cleansing of the temple after it had been defiled. It is a type and shadow of Christ in OUR temple…. US being fully cleansed…. Christ born in us…. We are a “mass” of believers…. Yes Christ”mass” and God set me free to celebrate or NOT celebrate that day however He leads me. I rejoice that Jesus is celebrated and preached on that day and every day…. It’s true that Jesus wasn’t born on December 25th, but a day is chosen for an adopted child to celebrate its birthday when their date of birth is not known, eh? It is true that Jesus was not born on that day, but the Jews celebrate the Feast of Lights at that time, exchanging gifts, so what better day to choose? Truly we are not under the law and answer to God. In good conscience I, who was once strictly against it believing it was pagan, now say “Merry Christmas, peace on earth and good will toward men!” Let every man do what they believe is right.
Blessings Holly. I do enjoy you.

    • Thank you for sharing that! I had doubts that it was truly a false holiday, but couldn’t find anything to ease my mind or doubts. The book of Maccabees is part of the Lost Books, right?

      • The 4th Book of Maccabees is part of the Lost Books, but 1 Maccabees is not. It and 2 Maccabees are included in the Apocrypha. The exact verse is 1 Maccabees 4: 52-59. It’s interesting that right after the Lord led me to read this, a friend who didn’t know what I believed gave me a live evergreen tree for a Christmas present and I felt the Holy Ghost come all over me. What a witness/confirmation of what our Lord had quickened to me in the word I read…. along with the realization that WE are trees planted of the Lord…. and yes, lights in the Feast of Lights. This caused me to know of a certainty that it is not wrong to have a Christmas tree as we have been taught. How happy my daughter was that her “Bah humbug” mother saw the light!
