the first and the last

This is something new for me, sharing the first and last photos on my camera roll… I’m going to try to do this on the first of the month.

I accidentally broke the bloom off the daffodil when I was cleaning the garden out way back in March. I brought it inside and stuck it in a jar. I believe the jar is an old medicine bottle, but it works for little flowers/bulbs like this.

This is the same flower as the one taken back in March; I took the above photo yesterday (Thurs, June 30). I’m actually keeping it to see what happens…three months and it’s wilted but it still has color. Every so often I do change the water, or at least add some fresh, but it has been a little while since I’ve done anything with it. Just keeping an eye on it to see what happens.

I managed to keep the temperature in the house cool and comfy today, even with the windows open. As you may or may not be aware, I don’t have air conditioning. Most of the time, when it gets hot out, I close the windows and let the fans do their thing. But not today…it was hot, but not that hot. Since I have actually figured out how to keep the inside temperature cool, I am working on figuring out how to lower the humidity – without using a plug-in device if I can help it. So far, I can lower the humidity by about 10%. It’s something, but I’m not sure it’s enough. At the moment I have jars, tins, and small dishes – anything with a lid – filled or partially filled to help absorb moisture in the air. All winter long I saved ash and charcoal from the woodstove to use as dehumidifying agents. I’ll probably have to pull some more out. But not until I close the house up again.

Don’t forget…I am hopefully going to the 1776 Restoration Movement Rally on Saturday. It’s from 4-8 on Saturday and 2-4 on Sunday. If it’s hot and humid like it is today, I will probably stay home. We’ll see what happens, but there is a rally on Sunday as well. I’ll be posting throughout the day, but I will probably, more than likely, be absent. Any comments will be answered…

hope you have a great day!
thanks for stopping by!!
