An old World War 2 song, an American Patriotic song written/published in 1942 by Frank Loesser, as a response to the Pearl Harbor Attack.
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition
And we’ll all stay free
Praise the Lord and swing into position
Can’t afford to be a politician
Praise the Lord, we’re all between perdition
And the deep blue sea
Yes the sky pilot said it
Ya gotta give him credit
For a son of a gun of a gunner was he
Shouting Praise the Lord, we’re on a mighty mission
All aboard, we ain’t a-goin’ fishin’
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition
And we’ll all stay free
Praise the Lord (Praise the Lord) and pass the ammunition
Praise the Lord (Praise the Lord) and pass the ammunition
Praise the Lord (Praise the Lord) and pass the ammunition
And we’ll all stay free
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition
And we’ll all stay free
The other day my son and I had to run to the grocery store to get some milk. On the way, my son popped in this CD I had gotten as part of his homeschooling curriculum. This song in particular was the one he was looking for. Don’t ask my why, ’cause I don’t know. What I do know is you will probably, more than likely be hearing some more WW2 songs.
Our country was established ‘In God We Trust’. What failed? It wasn’t God.

Songs like this need to make a comeback…in my opinion. I know some may take offense to it, but I’d rather listen to this than Carly B, Miley Cyrus, or Eminem. There will be more songs like this, like I stated earlier.
hope you have a great day!
thanks for stopping by!!
~ take care ~ stay safe ~ much love ~
The origin of the phrase was Chaplain LTJG Howell M. Forgy aboard the USS New Orleans during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Because electricity had been knocked out, he helped organize ammunition brigades and kept morale up while saying “Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition.”
I know I had read that somewhere, but didn’t include it in the post. Thank you for sharing!
Awesome song and I agree – bring back more of the older music. I honestly can’t listen to modern music (other than my own, of course) 🙂
I’ve heard other versions of this. Cheeky, in a good way.
