Old clocks

This clock actually works and keeps pretty good time – as long as I keep up with winding it twice a day. It is a twelve-hour clock and is around a hundred years old.

Twelve-hour clocks need to be wound up twice a day. There are also 24 hour and 6-hour clocks. 24 hour clocks get wound once a day and 6 hour clocks get wound 4 times a day. I don’t think 6 hour clocks were all that popular.

My dad told me this clock came out of an old Ford. I’m sure at one point it worked, I just don’t feel like taking it apart to try and get it going. I can adjust the hands easily enough, but the box needs to come apart. And I have a feeling I wouldn’t be able to get it back together again. So, I leave it alone.

I have no idea how old this clock is. It was in with my grandfather’s stuff. I think the smaller circle under the 12 is for the second hand, but don’t quote me on that. The clock is also featured in the painting set behind it. It is a watercolor painting I did when going to the local community college.

This clock I bought when we were in the Adirondack Mountains (NY) camping many years ago, the hands got bent on transit home. I’ve tried to straighten them out, but so far, I can’t get them straight enough.

Even though it’s hard to clean, I can’t get rid of it.

As time goes on, you’ll understand. What lasts, lasts; what doesn’t, doesn’t. Time solves most things. And what time can’t solve, you have to solve yourself.
