I’ve got the dirt

September 27, 2022

With all the transplanting and trimming out I’ve been doing recently, I figured you’d probably want to know what I’m doing with all the dirt.

Some of it is going around the base of tree trunks and covering exposed roots. This will protect the root system when mowing. When doing this though, I have to be careful not to crowd the dirt too much around the base of the tree. It could cause the tree to start to rot, which is no good.

I am starting a new berm, which you can barely see in the first photo (above). When we get a lot of rain, it should keep water that rushes through the back of the property from creeping towards the pool area. Most of the water goes the other way, and has created a ravine, if you want to call it that. But when we get a lot of rain, like when a hurricane comes through, it doesn’t stay in the path it has created and flows where there is the least resistance.

I am thinking I’m going to have to do something further back, just to slow the flow of the rushing water, if nothing else. I have to figure out where the water is flowing…it meanders its way around and eventually goes into a hole under the interstate fence. It may have been a hole a groundhog created. I’m not sure. The details of that will have to be for another post.

I have used dirt to level out the pool area and kind of make the area a little bigger. When I had the bigger pool, before I got this one, you could barely walk around it, which really isn’t safe for the pool either.

I have been known to just dump the dirt.
There is a mound of dirt under the raspberry bushes, even if you can’t really tell it.

This is where I got dirt for me cats litter box before he passed away. Yeah, I used dirt instead of kitty litter. He loved going out into my gardens and using that as his litter box, so I figured why not bring it in for him. Leaves, dirt, even rocks….whatever I happened to dig up. He loved it!

He had two litter boxes – one was dirt, the other was shredded paper. Both of which was compostable. They took a little more work than store bought kitty litter, but was much more environmentally safe.

I haven’t added any dirt to the main berm my dad started many years ago. I haven’t needed to. Although I have extended it down a little further, a little closer to the path we’ve created to the back of the property. I don’t have any photos readily available at the moment.

I am doing most of the work myself, just so you know. I don’t need any praise or special recognition. This is what I do, and have been doing for nearly twenty years. After my dad went blind, I took over doing a lot of the stuff he used to do. He could still do some things, like rebuild the mower shed and clean the gutters – although I wouldn’t let him get on the roof. I didn’t need him walking off the edge because he couldn’t see it. Going up the ladder…I let him do that. I did get frustrated with him on more than one occasion though. But again, that’s a story for another day.

I think that’s about all I have for the moment.
Hope you have a great day!
Thanks for stopping by!!

I’ll tell you what a Constitutional crisis is:

22 million illegal aliens living in America and utilizing benefits they never contributed to and voting illegally.

Yes, this is a real Constitutional crisis!

Once I went to a party with my husband, full of people he knew (from work) but I didn’t. A guy came up to us, turned to me and said, “You must be the wife.” I turned to my husband and said, “You have a WIFE?” Should’ve seen the guy’s face!

how Facebook police watch my page…

…as of this morning, I had 48 hours to go on my Facebook restriction. I have gone back to Wimkin again. I’m not sure what I’m going to do with Facebook, probably just not spend as much time there…even though I don’t spend much time there to begin with.

take care
stay safe

  1. It sounds like fb isn’t a positive experience for you. I get it. The entire thing seems to do more harm than good.

I originally created my facebook account as a tool. Reconnecting with some family members. Goal accomplished, now I couldn’t care less about facebook.

    • I originally started so I could share Holly’s World…now, I’m hardly there. I have made some new friendships and we share info, I could disconnect right now if I wanted to…and I’ve thought about it. But I don’t give up that easy.
