morning harsh

my thoughts

*photos made June 8, 2023, at 9am.

All three are the same photo of a male Gold Finch, the last one is unedited. I typically wouldn’t do this, but I wanted to show how the haze from the Canada wildfires have affected us in Maryland. Typically, making photos early in the morning or evening are the best times. You would think I made these photos in the late morning or afternoon hours, with as harsh as the lighting is. But it was still relatively early in the morning.

The smell of the fire was concerning…it didn’t smell like a wood fire, but rather a chemical fire – industrial, or like rubber burning. My housemate was on the Chesapeake Bay at the time and said it smelled like an electrical fire. At this point, I’m just glad the winds have shifted.

I don’t believe the fires were of the accidental kind either. They were set deliberately, from what I’m seeing.

The haze is supposed to be gone by Friday, so when I post this on Monday, we’ll see if I have any updates*.
It’s also very dry here at the moment. We haven’t had much in the way of rain all spring and the winter months were dry, with very little snow even. Even snow melt, if it’s slow, is good for the water table.
I’ve had to start watering my houseplants that are outside. Typically, I move them outside this time of year so I don’t have to water them like I would if they were in the house. I have two five-gallon crockpots on my deck, with leftover water that I use to water the plants. (During the winter months I keep pots, vases, bowls, etc., around the house filled with water to humidify the house. Since we use a wood stove, it’s a necessity.)

If you thought 9/11 was bad…

just wait for the staged “alien” invasion.

*we did get a little rain Friday evening, not much, but at least it’s something. It’s been raining most of the day today, a nice steady drizzle. I moved one of my crock pots out into the walkway so I can collect rainwater, I just need to either put a screen over it so birds and other critters don’t get stuck in it or put a branch in it. I’m thinking a branch…

hope you have a great day!
thanks for stopping by!!
