signs of a “Christian” cult

+ they add to the word of God: It’s never the Bible alone as its authority. Publications such as The Book of Mormon, Pearl of Great Price, Science and Health, AWAKE and Watchtower magazines are given equal importance over Scripture

~ they subtract from the Deity of Jesus: they will say he’s a prophet, a teacher, the devil’s brother, Michael the archangel, the Son of God – but never God in the flesh. They may also subtract from the personhood of the Holy Spirit by reducing him to an impersonal force used by God

* they multiply works to gain salvation: it is never grace alone, you must join them, be baptized, you must go door to door, you must strictly obey commandments. No one is saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

/ they will divide your loyalties: They are an antichrist group. You are deceived into placing your primary loyalty toward the cult and its leaders instead of the Lord Jesus Christ. Also, you are discouraged from associating with non-members, and forbidden to have anything to do with ex-members. Where true Christians are encouraged to maintain contact and closeness with unbelieving family members, these groups do not.

examples of Christian Cults are:

~ The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons)
~ Jehovah’s Witnesses
~ Scientology
~ The Twelve Tribes: This group began in the early 1970s with Elbert Eugene Spriggs. They claim that salvation can only be found by giving all possessions to them and living in their community. All personal decision-making power is given over to the leadership. aka the Messianic Communities
~ The Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity (Unification Church)
~ The International Churches of Christ: This highly evangelistic group which began in 1978 with Kip McKean embraces most of the main tenets of the historic Church. Teaches that it is the only true Church and is highly authoritarian, with immense control over members’ lives. aka Boston Movement
~ The Family: This communal group was founded by David “Moses” Berg. A strange mixture of basic Christian tenets and almost total sexual license. Very controlling and manipulative. aka Children of God
~ Christian Identity Movement: A loose-knit confederation of various small groups that are militantly anti-government and conspiracy driven. Each group holds differing, deviant Christian tenets. All hold to Caucasians being the descendants of the ten “lost” Tribes of Israel, God’s true people. (Aryan Nations, Christian Identity Church, Klu Klux Klan (KKK), etc.)
~ The Nation of Islam (Black Muslims)
~ United Pentecostal Church

hope you have a great day!
