You thought it was going to be a baby pic of me, didn’t you? That’s the fun of my name! Word play!!

Anyway…another baby Holly tree I found the other day while walking around taking pictures! It will need to be transplanted come spring…but where to put it…?

Something is missing!

Nov 15, 2019

something is missing
can you see what it is?
It’s round and hard
and can be added to cookies,
and brownies,
and cakes

Don’t worry, I will reveal what it is at the end of the post…if you can’t find it!

I took the first picture a couple of days before I took the second one. And I didn’t move it…something else did.

Anyway, it’s been a good day! I am feeling much better…still got a little cough and a headache. But other than that, almost back to normal. But what is normal?

  • Normal is just a state of mind, and is overrated, as my son says.
  • Normal is boring
  • Normal in this house is just a setting on the dryer….oh wait, we don’t have a dryer!… in this house is a strange word indeed!

Wintertime’s A Comin’

Nov 15, 2019

I just wanted to let you know that since winter’s coming, I won’t be getting out and doing as much hiking and such things. And since I’m already sick…it’s probably going to be a long, rough winter. Of course, I probably caught what my boyfriend has. Just not as bad!

Taken February 12, 2019

Having said that, that doesn’t mean that I won’t be taking pictures! I’ll just be staying closer to home. There is beauty everywhere, every season – you just need to know how to look for it!

Don’t worry… I’ve got plenty of photos and stories to share, to get us through the cold, winter months ahead!!

I’m guessing this photo was taken this past winter…
the date stamp on the info says August 8, 2019
We definitely didn’t have snow in August
Not where I live!!

When we get a lot of snow, we won’t be getting out anyway! My little Aveo doesn’t go anywhere if we get more than 3 inches of snow. We do have my boyfriend’s Tahoe, four wheel drive. But if we don’t need to go anywhere, we don’t. We stock up before the storm hits and hunker down.

taken January 2019

My neighbor does come and plow us out – for free! (In the spring I take him and his family a basket of fruit as a thank you!) Sometimes it takes a couple of days to get to us. We’ve been stuck back here for five days before…but that’s for another post!

New Hearth Rug
taken October 22, 2019

Glad we have the wood stove! And I love the new hearth rug! Now, I just need to get some shelving up! At the auction I went to a couple weekend’s ago I got a shelving unit, I just need to get it up on the wall.

There is more wood in the house now that it’s cold out!!

Hope you have a great day!

Stuck in a tree

Just thought I’d show you some images I got from one photograph. At some point, I’ll show you how to do this in Photoshop, if you would be interested.

Sorry this is late, I kinda knew it would be! Being sick will take its toll on you!

Hope you enjoy!!

stuck in a tree

With the first photo, I just adjusted the brightness and contrast.

blue and yellow with a pop of white

With this photo (above), I went into Filters/Gradient Map and played until I got something I liked. It doesn’t always work out, but this time it did.

Then I twirled it…in Filters/Distort/Twirl.

Then I posterized it…filters/adjustments/posterize. And I always save between steps, as you can see, I was able to get 4 extra photos.

I like the effects! Hope you do to!!

Love Life!

I am feeling better! The milk and honey really helped. I will be drinking some more before bed. It felt oh so good on my sore throat. Not sure if I mentioned it earlier, but my voice is pretty much gone too. Laryngitis! I think it’s just a cold, at this point. If I can keep it from going into my chest I’ll be that much better. I really don’t want to go to the doctor if I don’t have to!

Warm Milk and Honey

Nov 14, 2019

Makes me sleepy! So I will be laying down – again – when I am finished! But I thought I’d share the benefits of warm milk and honey!

Skin Care

Both honey and milk possess antimicrobial and cleansing properties. Use of honey masks are effective for relieving acne. These properties are used when the two are taken together. Numerous cleansers are prepared using milk and honey because the mixture gives the skin a healthy glow. One can also enjoy a bath of milk and honey, by mixing them in equal quantities in water. The combination is often used in spas throughout the world.

Aids in Digestion

Honey is a good source of prebiotics, according to a study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry. Prebiotics are nutrients that stimulate the growth and development of probiotics, the beneficial bacteria growing and developing in our intestines and digestive system.

Prebiotics has demonstrated a stimulatory effect on bifidobacteria, a type of probiotic found in milk. The carbohydrates and oligosaccharides in honey help promote healthy and proper function of these beneficial bacteria, which are are essential for the healthy maintenance and function of the GI tract. When the bacterial balance in the digestive tract is good, it eliminates a number of irritating conditions including constipation, cramps, and bloating.

Boosts Stamina

A glass of milk and honey every morning is thought to improve a person’s stamina. Milk contains protein, while honey contains the necessary carbohydrates required for an effective stimulus of metabolism.

Animal proteins from milk are broken down into basic amino acids by enzymes and are then reformed to create usable proteins for humans. The excess material in this transformation is then oxidized as usable energy. Proteins are an essential part of the human diet, and honey helps to stimulate their metabolism. – I would guess that you wouldn’t warm the milk and add honey. A glass of milk and a slice of toast with honey on it, maybe?

Bone Health

As research on honey continues, it is gradually becoming clear that honey acts as a carrier and transporter of nutrients from food throughout the body. Specifically, honey has shown itself to be integral in the body’s acute uptake of calcium, of which milk is a rich source. This is noted by a study performed on rats by Dr. Merlin Ariefdjohan of the University of Colorado in the United States.

So, consuming honey and milk together will not only give your body the necessary nutrients (i.e. calcium) to benefit your bone health, but will also maximize its absorption in the body. Proper calcium levels can prevent conditions like osteoporosis and inflammation of the joints.

Reduces Insomnia

Honey and milk have both been used as remedies for insomnia and sleeplessness in alternative medicine. Individually, they are both effective, but the effects are strengthened when taken together. Honey is one of the rare sugary foods causing a controlled increase in the amount of insulin being secreted, which also promotes tryptophan to be released into the brain. Tryptophan is normally converted into serotonin, which induces a feeling of relaxation. Furthermore, serotonin is commonly converted to melatonin, a well-researched sleep aid. A negative impact of tryptophan depletion on sleep continuity is well demonstrated in one study published in Psychiatry Research. Thus, honey and milk can be used to reduce sleeplessness.

Does Honey Become Toxic In Warm Milk?

Honey does not become toxic when added to warm milk. However, honey should not be heated to temperatures higher than 140 degrees, according to a study published in the Ayurveda journal Ayu. According to the researchers, the honey, when heated, produces a toxin called hydroxymethyl furfuraldehyde (HMF). It is recommended to add the desired amount of honey in warm milk, rather than hot milk, to get the full health benefits of this combination. So enjoy your cup of honey and milk!

Hope everyone is having a great day so far!

It’s good to be alive!

Except when you’re sick! I’ve had a cough since yesterday morning and woke up this morning, I can barely talk and my throat is sore! I don’t think I have a fever. I have had nasal and chest congestion for a couple of days, so it’s probably just breaking lose.

I am taking medicine and gargling with salt water. Seems to be helping! Even so…it’s still good to be alive!

What to do, what to do…?

Another day

Still smiling!

Despite the bitter cold, I brought firewood up to the house! This morning I brought three arm loads up…I wasn’t able to start the mower until this afternoon! It was frozen. Once the temps warmed up, the mower started, and I was able to bring more wood up. The high today was 35 degrees (Fahrenheit). 1.667 degrees Celsius! Is that even possible?!?

Anyway…my boyfriend hasn’t had a drink since last Thursday and he seems to be doing ok! I don’t know if he’s going through withdrawal or not, but he’s been sick pretty much since then. Actually, he was starting to come down with something before, so he probably is actually sick!

As for me? I am really starting to get back to my old self! There’s really not much to say, I’m doing what I need to do! To get through, to be myself, to help my boyfriend (or not) and be the best parent I can for my son. All I can do right now is take things one day at a time!
