1269 PHOTOS: What They Have in Common

August 31, 2019

I guess the one thing that ties all these photos together is that they are all centered around trees, or what’s left of them.

It is the end of the month! YAY!! So, there’s not much left. But more than I had hoped for. But that’s ok! I still plan on doing a left overs post tomorrow, plus the surprise. Just keep in mind that I do work tomorrow, so it may take me some time to get everything posted. But it will happen.

So, on to today’s post! I hope you enjoy!

Grass in the Water, Town Creek, MD
Hole in the tree
that’s…odd!

Thinking back, I should’ve walked around this tree and taken more pictures. But hindsight is 20/20…right? Oh well…maybe some day I will get back there.

Is that an old shoe?

No, it’s an old burned up piece of burned up driftwood. I found this interesting because…well, it’s an old piece of wood and new growth. And it does look like an old shoe!

So, those are my photos for today! It’s Saturday! Getting some (more) much needed gardening done! I guess we’ll see how far I get. What I plan on working on is the garden I started working on before my dad passed away. It kept getting pushed to the side mostly because I just didn’t feel like tackling it. The procrastinating stops today. I hope I can get it back to its original state (the way my dad had it) and then flowers back in it.

1269 PHOTOS: Things That Fly

August 30, 2019

No, the new lay out isn’t what I had up my sleeve! I’m not sure I like it (the new lay out), but it will have to do for now. What I have up my sleeve, I think, you will like and I hope doesn’t drive me crazy. But, I’m doing it and that is that! You will find out on Sunday! So, until then you will have to wait in suspense! It’s really not that long to wait!

So anyways, on to my post! Things that fly…I hope you enjoy!

enjoying some pool water?

Don’t worry, the pool water won’t hurt the butterflies or other critters. I put the bare minimum chemicals in the pool!

I know you saw this the other day when I did my 100 word sentence…that’s why I put it at the end! It’s just that good…LOL! If you didn’t see it or read it, you should go check it out! It’s the last 100 word sentence I did.

That’s about all I have for now!

Have a great day!

1269 PHOTOS: Quiet Thursday 2

August 29, 2019

Another quiet Thursday! Again, I’ll let the photos do the talking…but I think I’ll add some quotes. Hope you enjoy!!

“Just living is not enough…one must have sunshine, freedom and a little flower.” – Hans Christian Anderson

“I must have flowers, always, and always.” – Claude Monet

“A garden to walk in and immensity to dream in–what more could he ask? A few flowers at his feet and above him the stars.” – Victor Hugo, Les Miserables

“A weed is but an unloved flower.” – Ella Wheeler Wilcox

“I will be the gladdest thing under the sun! I will touch a hundred flowers and not pick one.” – Edna St. Vincent Millay

This last quote is so true for me…I have my flower gardens, but not one comes in the house. Unless I’m going to photograph it. I would prefer to look at them in their natural world, plus the bees, birds and other critters need them more than I need them in the house! My mom was pretty much the same way, so I guess I get that from her.

That’s about all I have, for now anyway!

Today is National Chop Suey Day! YUM!

Have a great day and thanks for visiting!

Something Huge!!

Mr. Toad says thank you!

I just wanted to give a great big thank you to everyone! I now have 100 wordpress followers, 2 email followers and 35 facebook followers! So…thank you to everyone! I very much appreciate the follows and comments!

I also wanted to say I have something up my sleeve…I think everyone will enjoy/appreciate this “surprise”. It’s in the thought process right now, when I’m done here I will get to work so that it will be ready hopefully by the beginning of next week, maybe even this weekend!

I might do some changes next month. Everything good! Actually, I was trying to figure out what kinds of posts you like the best, but it seems to be all over the place. So, maybe I’ll just stay the course for now. I do know that the earlier I post the better, so I will try to get back in the habit of doing that! If you have any thoughts, drop me a line, I’d be glad to hear from you!!

1269 PHOTOS: Things That Jump

So today is Wednesday, August 28, 2019! So glad it’s the end of the month. I’m getting down to the nitty gritty of my photographs for the month of July. I know I said I might do another post yesterday, but I got busy doing things around the house and finishing up editing photos for next month. By the time I finished doing everything, around 6pm, I was too tired to do much of anything. I was falling asleep on the couch. So, here I am, posting at my somewhat normal time.

It is my favorite time of the day! The sun is rising, crickets chirping – all is quiet and peaceful!

I think all in all, Kalimba (above) is my favorite cat we’ve owned so far. Or does he own us? Despite the fact that he gets me up so early and he acts more like a dog than a cat, he is a good cat. All he wants is a clean litter box, some food and water and to be pretty much left alone – unless he is hungry. And then he will bug you to no end.

little black spider I saved from the pool

He is a bold jumper and looks quite scary. But he is not nearly as big as the trampoline spider we have hanging out near the deck.

We have decided that the pool needs to be replaced. It’s got a slow leak in it… I bought it in 2011, so I definitely got my money’s worth out of it. Come spring, we will have a new pool. I’m glad it’s the end of the season, we don’t really need the pool right now. Although I do miss getting in it, it’s getting a bit cool to get in! (That never stopped me before…unless it got too cold to get in.) We’ll be closing it up in a week or so anyway!

little white jumping spider

You’ve seen this little guy before!

just hopping up to say hi!

And my little tree frog! We have a toad that hangs out on the deck as well, but I haven’t gotten many pictures of him this year…I’ve included a picture of him at the end (it’s not one of my 1269 photos, but that’s ok!) of this post.

I think he hangs out behind the couch throughout the night. And then makes an appearance shortly after day break. The toad liked to hang out underneath the shelving unit on the deck.

Meet Mr. Toad

So, that’s my story for today! I hope you enjoyed my ramblings!

Have a great day and thanks for visiting!

READING: Old King Cole

August 27, 2019

Just to recap from last week:

In the last post I talked about a theory that the nursery rhyme was based on ‘Coel Hen’, an ancient king of Wales and how I am directly related to him. According to research done, there is no proof that this is in fact who the nursery rhyme is based on. It is all speculation. I do know that this popped up in my family research and is quite interesting, if it is in fact true. One thing I didn’t mention is that he (Coel Hen aka Old King Cole) is my 23rd great grandfather, if I made the connections right (I’m pretty sure I did!).

Now, on the COLE-brook theory!

It was suggested in the 19th century by William Chappell (an expert on popular music) that “Old King Cole” was rally “Old Cole”, aka Thomas Cole-brook. Thomas Cole-brook was a (supposed) 12th-century Reading cloth merchant. His story was recorded (written down) by Thomas Deloney in Pleasant History of Thomas of Reading c.1598. The name “Old Cole” had some special meaning in Elizabethan theater, but it is unclear what is was. (wikipedia)

So, those are two theories so far. Which theory do you like? I like the ‘Coel Hen’ Theory, for obvious reasons. Do you know of any other theories?

Next week, I will go a little deeper into the tale of Thomas Cole-brook. There’s a story there, and I think it’s interesting, but too much for this post.

Hope you enjoyed!

Have a great day!!

Thanks for visiting!

(I’ll do another post in a little bit! I feel I need to do something that includes my normal rantings!)
