wild hearts don’t break, they burn

Sunday’s Inspiration

I want to get into the meat of this, like I usually do on Sunday, but first, I have to apologize for being so late. I was up at my normal time, but I had to get a fire started this morning…just to get the chill off. When I opened the wood stove, there were a TON of stink bugs!!! I mean a ton, photos are below, taken with my cell phone!

I know with the first photo, the stink bugs are hard to see…your eye is naturally drawn to the center/floor/everything else. The stink bugs are around the metal part of the door, underneath or above the piping/insulator. In the second photo they are easier to see. And to make things worse, they were inside the stove as well…every time I opened the door to work on the fire, a hand full flew out. Absolutely disgusting!

At this point, I’m not halfway wondering if they didn’t come in through the chimney. Or at least some of them anyway…

To get rid of them, I grabbed a cup of soapy water and brushed them into the cup as gently as possible. This was, hopefully, to keep them from stinking me up! I did get got a little bit. But not too bad. The soapy water suffocates and kills them.

So, that has been my morning so far. How has your morning/day been?

I do have a good fire going now, so the house will start warming up nicely now. I don’t think I’ll need to keep a fire going all day, depends on how cold it supposed to get tonight.

On the plus side, I get to use my new humidifier and trivet!!

left: cast iron humidifier; right: cast iron trivet

Both are brand new and haven’t been used! I don’t know why, but I absolutely love cast iron…even cooking with it!

So, now should we get on to the inspiration part of the post? I think we should…

shop: I will be spending a lot of time on this today, and making sure it’s really/truly up and running by tomorrow. I got a good portion of it fixed yesterday, but I had to spend some time doing other things (cutting firewood, folding laundry) so today I should be able to figure out the rest of the kinks. Thanks for understanding, There’s always a few kinks to figure out when starting something new.

    • yeah, pretty disgusting…and I thought we were doing pretty good, before today, very few of the buggers. What didn’t get stuck in soapy water, got burned up in the fire…LOL
Thanks for stopping by today πŸ™‚

  1. Wow, loved the verses about ‘fire’ and the way you introduced it. Fire in ones belly keeps one going. The part of the world I come from, we don’t need a hearth, so have never heard of stink bugs.

    • Thank you! I wasn’t planning it that way, just kind of happened. Stink bugs are a relatively new, invasive bug here. They’re originally from China, I think. I can’t remember the real name at the moment.
      Thanks for stopping by!
