Picture(s) of the Week

Sept 21, 2019

I don’t normally do this, but I got some amazing pictures this week! And I couldn’t decide which one to pick, so you’re getting to see 4 of them.

empty chrysalis

I was cutting the dead black eyed susan’s back yesterday when I found this chrysalis. I took pics before I investigated further…it’s empty! I thought I was going to have to leave it alone.

And then, as I was moving along I noticed an upside down praying mantis sunning herself. I turned it black and white because, well, her chest was so bright. I guess it’s really her thorax – the area between her arms/head and abdomen. Anyway, no amount of adjusting was helping, as you can see in the picture below. That’s why I cropped it the way I did.

funnel weaver spider web

I was walking around on the 17 (Tues) and noticed this web. I’ve seen smaller ones before, but never any this big. Not on my property. The spider was in its hole, waiting for dinner – but you can’t see it. It’s called a Agelenidae. To find out more click on the name of the spider.

So, there you have it – my picture of the week. Or rather, pictures!!
