it’s disrespectful outside

I really don’t mind the snow, never have really. It’s the bitter cold I don’t like. When we live in an area that gets this kind of weather, it really does no good to bitch and complain. Sorry, but it’s the truth. We grin and bear it, deal with it. Before we know it, spring will be here and things will come back to life.

All of my adult life, when they’re calling for deep snow, we prepare to hunker down for a few days. When I was working I’d call out, if we got more than 4 inches. My little Aveo gets stuck and there’s really no point in going out at that point. Better safe than sorry, right? No amount of money is worth risking my life for. Not really.

I just love how they word these sometimes…

A severe weather alert has been issued for your area

Winter Weather Advisory issued January 15 at 4:49PM EST until January 16 at 10: 00AM EST by NWS Baltimore MD/Washington DC

  • WHAT…Snow. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches, with up to 6 inches on the higher hilltops. * WHERE…Portions of north central, northeast and northern Maryland. * WHEN…Until 10 AM EST Tuesday. * IMPACTS…Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning commute. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Snow intensity will increase this evening before tapering off early Tuesday morning.

This was the second notice I got yesterday with the phrase “with up to 6 inches on the higher hilltops”. I find it kind of funny. What exactly are hilltops?

Anyway, we did get about 4 inches of snow and it’s 27F (-2.7C). The wind has picked up slightly and the sun is trying to show her pretty face. Which causes snow blindness, but I guess it’s something else to deal with. I was thinking about bringing more firewood up onto the deck, but I don’t feel like dealing with the snow. So it will have to wait. I still have plenty of firewood in the house and on the deck for the time being. Probably tomorrow I will bring up some more firewood. It’s only supposed to get to 28F tomorrow, but I won’t have to deal with snow on the firewood – hopefully. The wind should blow all the snow out of the trees for the most part, so I will only have to deal with snow on the ground and on the tarps.

It will be cold, but I have boots, overalls, gloves and all the appropriate attire to deal with it. And I won’t stay out there any longer than I have to. Long enough to bring up a wheelbarrow load or two.

Photos I made yesterday and today… (January 15 and 16, 2024)

hope you have a great day!
thanks for stopping by!!
